Transformation

Do you know those dreams you wake up from and feel like you should repent? I had one of those last night. This girl got Simon and me kicked out of the testing center. I was so mad. I cussed at her and we started fighting. She was a runaway convict, after all, so I had every right to hate her. Right?Anyway, I'm totally winning when I see her stomach so I think, "If I can just bite her once on the stomach..." So, I go for it.

I wake up to Will screaming. "Did you BITE me?" I realized that I was dreaming and I must have actually lunged for him as I dreamed of biting this girl. "Yes..?" I said sheepishly. Will got up to see the bite mark in the light. It looked awful. I had to laugh. As far as I know, I don't walk or talk in my sleep. But I bite?

I have to say though, even though I have to put up with Will teasing me about my transformation into a vampire, it is nice having so much of the bed to myself now.

family trip

For my little sisters wedding, we went to Austin for a week to spend time with our families and help with the wedding. We had a really nice time.

This will be Will and me in 40 years.

Will really wanted to take Simon to the Zoo. I'm glad too because Simon really loves animals.

Some of the animals we were really excited to show him but he couldn't get past looking at the gate around them.

But he loved the fish and the birds.

Will was so excited to show him everything. It was like 110 degrees out on the day that we went. We could feel it and so could the animals.

The thing I was really excited to see was the giraffe...but a zoo worker told us that their giraffe died a few months before. That's no surprise in that heat but what the heck?

Will wanted to see bears but there were signs saying that because the bears wer
e old, they got to go inside where it wasn't so hot. So, we didn't see some of the things we wanted to. :( Bummer. But overall, it was a great trip.

Simon was really happy about it.

We also had dinner with Will's family.

Grandpa read Simon a book in Italian.

It was a great trip but we are excited to be back to our home and routine.

Over the River and Through the Woods...

Well, we took a trip to Grandpa Matheson's house to visit him and let him see little Simon. He is 97! Go Grandpa! He just adores Simon and thinks he is the best thing since the wheel. But who doesn't? (Though the wheel, arguably, is pretty nifty.) Will showed him how he and Simon are training for the circus. They're good, huh? It's pretty funny to watch. Simon just calmly looks around and slobbers on himself. Completely trusting.
For other news, I'm still in school but should graduate in December. Kill me now. I love learning but being in school with Simon is a pain. I wish I could just go to school for fun and not be worried about homework. Can I get an Amen? But this too shall pass. I'm looking forward to other adventures. (Like 10 more babies...help me work on Will!)
That's about it. What fun...

I Can Do What I Want

I have funny dreams. So, why not blog about them? In my latest one I was in a cafeteria setting and I couldn't remember how I got there so I knew it was a dream. I was a little nervous and hesitant but I said, "Excuse me everyone. This is my dream so I can do what I want. So, I'd like to do a choreographed dance." Next thing I knew we were all dancing together: hands waving in the air and booties shaking. It was great.

Big Boy

So, you should know: Simon is HUGE! He is 16 lbs and 7 ounces, as of today. Still cute as ever. There are just more leg rolls to love on. As you can see in the photo, he has been tiring us out. Lately he's been waking up about 6 or 7 times a night. Ugh...But I read a tip that said you should put him to bed about 30 mins earlier if he starts waking up more during the night. I tried it and wha la! Back to only waking up 3 or 4 times a night. Needless to say, I'm tired. I'm trying to figure out how to go to bed at 6:30, when he does. I would definitely get more sleep if I could manage it! Our next step is taking naps without being held the entire time. ...Ahh...He just woke up. Guess I'll be cutting this entry short.

Simon Smiles

Well, Simon Lee Matheson was born on Tuesday Feb 8th, just before 4 am. We went to our doctors appointment on Monday at 9 am and because I had been bleeding and not feeling the baby move as much as usual, she sent us to monitor his heart and check the amniotic fluid. His heart seemed fine but he was really low on fluid so they induced me at about noon. I was already having contractions but they were irregular. When they broke my water they found that meconium was in the fluid so they had specialists there at the birth to clean out his lungs, in case he breathed it in. Will had me laughing during one contraction because his face was priceless. He looked like he was in more pain than I was. Simon didn't respond well to the contractions toward the end. His heart rate went really low after each one, especially when the pushing started. We were scared we might have to have a c-section but with the help of forceps, Simon came out just fine. So after about 18 hours of labor Simon was born! He did take a deep breath moments after birth so they took him down to the Neonatal ICU and monitored him for about an hour. Then he finally got to come down to my room and be with us. Everything else went so well that we got to leave a day early from the hospital. We were glad about that (for financial reasons) but I sure will miss that hospital food! It was crazy good.

Now Simon is home and making sure that Mom and Dad don't get too much sleep. But he is the sweetest, most patient little guy. And his facial expressions make you melt. Simon smiles.

Update

Well, it's been a while since my last blog so it's about time! I dont' have any big news to report. The baby should be coming any day now and I sure wish he would! I think it will be at the beginning of next week or the end of this one but please don't ask! I'm reminded how much I hate waiting for labor everytime I'm asked.

We have all of our tiny baby things ready to go but I'm starting to believe that I've been the recepient of a practical joke. I've been waiting forever to have this baby and I'm starting to believe that he's not really coming. I wake up some mornings thinking, "Man, I should apply for a job today", or "I think I'll start training for a marathon this week". Then I try turning over in bed and realize how incredibly uncomfortable I am. Maybe not.
