Over the River and Through the Woods...

Well, we took a trip to Grandpa Matheson's house to visit him and let him see little Simon. He is 97! Go Grandpa! He just adores Simon and thinks he is the best thing since the wheel. But who doesn't? (Though the wheel, arguably, is pretty nifty.) Will showed him how he and Simon are training for the circus. They're good, huh? It's pretty funny to watch. Simon just calmly looks around and slobbers on himself. Completely trusting.
For other news, I'm still in school but should graduate in December. Kill me now. I love learning but being in school with Simon is a pain. I wish I could just go to school for fun and not be worried about homework. Can I get an Amen? But this too shall pass. I'm looking forward to other adventures. (Like 10 more babies...help me work on Will!)
That's about it. What fun...

I Can Do What I Want

I have funny dreams. So, why not blog about them? In my latest one I was in a cafeteria setting and I couldn't remember how I got there so I knew it was a dream. I was a little nervous and hesitant but I said, "Excuse me everyone. This is my dream so I can do what I want. So, I'd like to do a choreographed dance." Next thing I knew we were all dancing together: hands waving in the air and booties shaking. It was great.

Big Boy

So, you should know: Simon is HUGE! He is 16 lbs and 7 ounces, as of today. Still cute as ever. There are just more leg rolls to love on. As you can see in the photo, he has been tiring us out. Lately he's been waking up about 6 or 7 times a night. Ugh...But I read a tip that said you should put him to bed about 30 mins earlier if he starts waking up more during the night. I tried it and wha la! Back to only waking up 3 or 4 times a night. Needless to say, I'm tired. I'm trying to figure out how to go to bed at 6:30, when he does. I would definitely get more sleep if I could manage it! Our next step is taking naps without being held the entire time. ...Ahh...He just woke up. Guess I'll be cutting this entry short.

Simon Smiles

Well, Simon Lee Matheson was born on Tuesday Feb 8th, just before 4 am. We went to our doctors appointment on Monday at 9 am and because I had been bleeding and not feeling the baby move as much as usual, she sent us to monitor his heart and check the amniotic fluid. His heart seemed fine but he was really low on fluid so they induced me at about noon. I was already having contractions but they were irregular. When they broke my water they found that meconium was in the fluid so they had specialists there at the birth to clean out his lungs, in case he breathed it in. Will had me laughing during one contraction because his face was priceless. He looked like he was in more pain than I was. Simon didn't respond well to the contractions toward the end. His heart rate went really low after each one, especially when the pushing started. We were scared we might have to have a c-section but with the help of forceps, Simon came out just fine. So after about 18 hours of labor Simon was born! He did take a deep breath moments after birth so they took him down to the Neonatal ICU and monitored him for about an hour. Then he finally got to come down to my room and be with us. Everything else went so well that we got to leave a day early from the hospital. We were glad about that (for financial reasons) but I sure will miss that hospital food! It was crazy good.

Now Simon is home and making sure that Mom and Dad don't get too much sleep. But he is the sweetest, most patient little guy. And his facial expressions make you melt. Simon smiles.

Update

Well, it's been a while since my last blog so it's about time! I dont' have any big news to report. The baby should be coming any day now and I sure wish he would! I think it will be at the beginning of next week or the end of this one but please don't ask! I'm reminded how much I hate waiting for labor everytime I'm asked.

We have all of our tiny baby things ready to go but I'm starting to believe that I've been the recepient of a practical joke. I've been waiting forever to have this baby and I'm starting to believe that he's not really coming. I wake up some mornings thinking, "Man, I should apply for a job today", or "I think I'll start training for a marathon this week". Then I try turning over in bed and realize how incredibly uncomfortable I am. Maybe not.

Birthday, Belly, and Blast to the Kitchen

I finally found the cord to my camera so I got some pictures of the paintings that everyone who came to Simon's birthday party did for his nursery. The party was so much fun, I mean it. Thank you everyone who came!

I'm really glad that we did it co-ed so that Will could come. I like him. :) He really had a fun time making all the cupcakes. He made 3 batches but only the strawberry ones made it.

Here are the chocolate ones. He forgot one of the main ingredients: flour. Pretty funny. I already told ya'll about how he'll turn up the cooking channel really loud and pretend hes a cheif. Cute.

But no worries. He tried the chocolate cupcakes again a few days ago and we've almost eaten them all by ourselves. Very good.

For the party he made a strawberry cream cheese and blue berry cream cheese fillings. They were a hit.

And speaking of getting hit...our kitchen...no words can describe. You just have to see it, so here it is.

So that's that. At least Will doesn't get the urge to bake when it looks like this.
Last but not least, look how the baby is growing!! Crazy huh? We found out yesterday that he is really scared of the vacuum cleaner. I turned it on and he went crazy. When I turned it off he got quiet for a second and then went crazy again, as if to say "don't ever do that again!" I can't wait to see his little face and figure out his crazy little personality.

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

Let's see, what's been going on lately? Well, the elections ended on tuesday night and Will, who was the executive director of the Utah County Democrats, was pretty bummed out with the results. Even though UC dems are super conservative, generally BYU professors, and or ex-mission presidents Utah County is not ready for a Democrat.

So, that's that. I spent yesterday tending to my very disheartented honey bunny. I secretly...or not so secretly loved every minute of him being home. We spent the whole day together. He started this and his second job about the time we got marrried so it's been a while since we've spent a whole day together.

And as my reward for putting up with him being gone so much, we got to put up the Christmas tree yesterday. That was fun. Even though I had, of course, the best idea of what the tree should look like (my vision is to the left), I let Will pick out the lights that we put on it. The sparce but huge red, yellow, and orange dangling bulbs make it look like a badly decorated Cinco de Mayo tree. I would never complain, though. I only mention it because I am...grateful...that I am reminded of this random Mexican holiday everytime I pass the tree that should remind me of the birth of Christ...or the many gifts that I hope Will will buy me. :) Convincing, aren't I?
